Why I got Into Art And Why I still Love it
Past:
Like most kids I really enjoyed drawing and imagining. I made my first comic when I was 4? (spoiler alert: it wasn’t very good. But for some reason when I was that age I thought it was the most HILARIOUS thing ever).
Even as a teenager, sketching became a form of escapism. A way to get lost in a different world. Like getting pulled into a good book. You get teleported to a world of your own for a little while. All I needed was my pencil, paper, eraser and my iPod (yes, I am a millennial). Art was also a way to release some overwhelming emotions from things happening at home or at school.
It was also something that I excelled in. I loved being creative. I always looked forward to my art classes in high school. I took art during all 4 years of high school. My guidance counselor tried to convince me to drop art class during my last year saying that it wasn’t necessary; but I said no. I didn’t express this out loud but in my mind I said, “I need art to cope with everything. You can’t take it away from me. For me it is necessary.”
I think that it may also have had to do with the fact that I am an introvert and self-expression was made easier for me through my art. Now that I am older my motivation is different.
Present:
My reason for getting back into art is to excel in it while I have the chance. It is also a stress reliever and I have more patience now as oppose to when I was younger.
I am more determined to finish my projects now than I was before. I have too many personal art projects that remain unfinished from when I was younger. Whether I decide to take those back on is another story. For now, I am focusing on improving my art skills and working on recent projects.
So, those are just a few reasons why I got into art. Why did you get in to art? I would like to find out your story. Please feel free to share.
